ActiveEdge wrote about a lot of interesting topics this year, but we wanted to find out exactly which stories most caught the attention of our blog readers in 2010?
To do that, we reviewed our handy dandy analytic software to determine the most popular blog articles of 2010. Here’s what we found.
Overall, readers were most drawn to our digital and social media related topics. In fact 9 of the top 10 articles focused on digital marketing and social media themes with only two articles being traditional marketing subject matters.
Following is a list the top 10 stories that ActiveEdge blog readers agreed were the most noteworthy.

Do you know what Facebook and Twitter are talking about? Do you care?
If you don’t, you may want to rethink that position. With millions of people updating statuses and tweeting, it’s not surprising that the leading topics there can give us a keen insight into what the world is interested in.
Just today, The Facebook Blog posted its 2010 Memology: Top Status Trends of the Year. In it, it uncovered a new anachronism, HMU, which is shorthand for “Hit Me Up”. Barely a blip on last years radar, HMU now gets mentioned 80,000 times per day on the social media platform.
Keeping up with the latest lexicon though is just one trend. Facebook also identifies the top talked about technology, (iPad and iPhone 4), top world events (Haiti, Chilean miners), musicians, movies and sports.
Yesterday, on the Twitter Blog, Twitter released its 2010 Trends on Twitter list, a recap of the biggest tweeted trends of the year. It too lists the top news events (Gulf Oil Spill, Haiti Earthquate), technology (iPad, Android), sports (World Cup, Lebron James), people and movies.
It’s an interesting recap of what the (online) world thought was important in 2010. If you didn’t recognize all the items, events, people or things that trended though, don’t feel bad, I had to Google a few names on the list myself. I had no idea that Twitter talked more about Brazilian president-elect Dilma Rouseff than Mel Gibson. My faith in humanity is restored.

Three Things You Can Do Now to Boost Your 2011 Social Media Program
The end of December is almost at our doorstep. Have you gotten everything you can from your Social Media program this year? Are you on target for next year? If you’re already planning for next year, (and we hope that you are since it is already December), here are three things you can do now to help boost your efforts for 2011.
1. Decide on your goals.
What exactly do you want your Social Media to do for you? Companies are finding success with their online efforts in a number of different areas, so it’s important to figure out what you want and then tailor a program around that specific goal.
For instance, some companies are using Social Media to extend the reach of their customer service departments and are incorporating it as part of their Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems. Public Service of New Hampshire is a great example of this. They use their Twitter and Facebook accounts to provide customers with critical information during storms and power outages. Customers are also using it to report power outages in their specific locales to PSNH.
Other companies are using Social Media for brand recognition, helping them be more present within their target audiences. Read more »
